“Lonas’ incised painted aluminum piece, an image of a shimmering silver feather on a black background titled “Aflight,” will be the cornerstone of WNCAP’s annual Raise Your Hand auction, set for September.
Lonas, a longtime supporter and donor to WNCAP’s auction, is best known for his series of portraits of birds’ nests carved into aluminum sheets. Feathers and trees are other favorite subjects.
His inspiration for “Aflight” came from a neighbor and close friend Annie Lalley, who gave him a Downy Hawk feather from her yard.”
